Vitamins and minerals
Even before you start trying to get pregnant, try to eat a balanced, whole food diet with a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy carbohydrates and adequate fats and proteins. If you are doing this already, you probably do not need a complete pregnancy multivitamin, as you are likely getting what you need from your diet.
It is important for all women planning a pregnancy to supplement their diet with folate and iodine, ideally for three months before conception and for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. There may be other recommendations your GP or midwife suggests depending on your personal medical history.
